All to often in our daily lives, due to certain comforts that insulate us, we forget of what rights, liberties, and general responsibility we, as the people, hold to make our democratic Republic function. It is all to easy for some to never understand what they are losing, concerning civil liberties, if they, the general body politic, don't understand what power they hold within themselves.

Democracy, at large, is an exchange of ideas, between a majority, and minorities. Factions, whether for ill or good, tug and pull at the operations of our government. The first amendment allows for the open transference of ideas, symbols, debate, and so on.

It should not be forgetton, for what grave consequences would (or will?) occur if, by the ease of shadow, liberties, such as the freedom of speech, are erased in big - vague - closed door sessions of government committee rooms. It is our responsibility to observe and fight for what strides have been delivered to us, through the passage of time, concerning our general civil liberties.

This statement is a reflection on the challenge of freedom of speech, the importance of the function of it, as well as the great challenge posed by Censorship.
